Practical AI

AI for Cloud & Cybersecurity Operations

We apply AI to the parts of cloud and cybersecurity work that are slow, repetitive, and easy to get wrong at scale — evidence collection, configuration review, policy analysis, cloud-posture assessment, and remediation planning. The AI reads configurations, cross-references policy, and drafts findings and recommendations; your engineers review the output and keep control over every final decision.

Firewall and Segmentation Review Assistant

Reviews firewall rulebases and segmentation policy to surface overly permissive, redundant, and risky rules, then drafts least-privilege recommendations for an engineer to confirm before any change is made.

Cloud Architecture Review Assistant

Assesses cloud and multi-cloud configurations against secure-architecture and posture baselines — IAM, encryption, logging, and segmentation — and summarizes gaps with prioritized, human-reviewed remediation options.

Compliance Evidence Assistant

Gathers and organizes configuration evidence and maps it to control requirements, drafting audit-ready summaries that your team verifies — reducing manual evidence collection without replacing reviewer judgment.

Incident and Alert Triage Assistant

Correlates alerts and context to draft triage summaries and suggested next steps, helping analysts prioritize faster while decisions and response actions stay with the responding team.

Infrastructure-as-Code Review Assistant

Reviews Terraform and other infrastructure-as-code against security and policy checks, flagging misconfigurations and drafting suggested fixes for an engineer to approve before they reach a pipeline.

What “agentic AI” actually means

Agentic AI describes systems that follow a defined goal, call approved tools, retrieve the data they need, run checks, and draft recommendations — working through multi-step tasks rather than answering a single prompt. In our designs the agent does the legwork and proposes a course of action, while a qualified person stays in control of the final decision.

Read-only analysis & recommendation

Read-only workflows analyze configurations, policy, and posture and produce findings and recommendations. They observe and advise only — they make no changes to your environment.

Action-taking automation

Action-taking workflows can prepare or stage changes, but they are gated: production changes require explicit human approval before they are applied, and an engineer remains accountable for the result.

Production changes require explicit approval.

Our agentic-AI guardrails

  • Scoped permissions — each assistant is granted only the specific, limited access it needs for its task.
  • Read-only defaults — assistants analyze and recommend by default and cannot change systems on their own.
  • Approval gates — any action that would change a system requires explicit human approval first.
  • Audit logs — actions, inputs, and outputs are logged so every step is traceable and reviewable.
  • Data minimization — only the data required for the task is accessed or processed, with privacy controls applied.
  • Human-in-the-loop review before production changes — a qualified engineer reviews and approves recommendations before anything reaches production.
Consulting Packages

Clear engagements with defined deliverables

Concrete, scoped ways to engage — each package names the problem it solves, the outcome you receive, and exactly what's delivered.

AI Workflow Discovery

The problem

Teams know AI could help but can't tell which use cases are worth pursuing, which are safe, or where to start.

The outcome

A clear, prioritized picture of where AI fits your work — ranked by feasibility and risk — with a concrete roadmap and a recommended first prototype.

What's delivered
  • Use-case inventory
  • Feasibility ranking
  • Data and security risk assessment
  • AI roadmap
  • Prototype recommendation

Secure AI Prototype

The problem

You have a promising AI use case but need to prove it works on your data with proper security and human oversight before committing further.

The outcome

A working, security-conscious AI workflow prototype validated against your real use case, with a clear path to deployment.

What's delivered
  • AI workflow prototype
  • RAG or document analysis
  • API integration
  • Human review workflow
  • Security controls
  • Deployment recommendation

Cloud/Cybersecurity AI Assistant

The problem

Cloud and security teams lose time searching runbooks, policies, and knowledge bases for answers that should be instant.

The outcome

A governed, access-controlled AI assistant that retrieves your runbooks and policies and supports approved tool-calling workflows — with full audit logging and admin documentation.

What's delivered
  • Knowledge-base ingestion
  • Runbook and policy retrieval
  • Tool-calling workflow design
  • Access control
  • Audit logging
  • Admin documentation

Firewall and Cloud Security Assessment

The problem

Firewall rulebases and cloud architecture have grown complex over time, and it's unclear where the real risks and gaps are.

The outcome

A prioritized, evidence-based view of your firewall and cloud security posture with a clear remediation roadmap and an executive summary for leadership.

What's delivered
  • Architecture review
  • Rule and policy findings
  • Segmentation review
  • Risk ranking
  • Remediation roadmap
  • Executive summary

Infrastructure Automation Readiness

The problem

Manual, repetitive infrastructure work slows delivery and introduces risk, but adopting automation safely is hard to plan.

The outcome

A practical roadmap to automate your infrastructure with Terraform, Ansible, and CI/CD — including security scanning and change-control integration built in from the start.

What's delivered
  • Manual process inventory
  • Terraform and Ansible roadmap
  • Git and CI/CD workflow
  • Security scanning plan
  • Change-control integration

Why Smart Internetworks

A Senior Architecture Partner From Advisory to Implementation

We help organizations across Minnesota and nationwide design resilient, secure infrastructure — advising on the right architecture, planning the implementation, and staying available for escalation when the hard problems surface. Here's why they choose us.

Server rack infrastructure

Advisory-Led Engagements

We start with your real requirements, not a product catalog. You get senior advisory guidance that frames the right architecture for today and a path that scales tomorrow.

Senior Architecture Expertise

Our work is led by certified architects across networking, security, and cloud platforms, so your environment is designed to professional standards from the ground up.

Security-First Architecture

Every design embeds security at the architecture level — firewalls, segmentation, zero-trust zones, and monitoring — rather than bolting it on after the fact.

Implementation You Can Trust

We don't stop at recommendations. We plan and deliver the implementation, then validate that what was designed is what actually runs in production.

Vendor-Neutral Selection

We provide vendor-neutral technology selection and implementation planning — recommending the right platform for your situation, not the brand that benefits us.

Escalation Support

When complex issues arise, you have a senior partner to escalate to — architecture-level guidance and hands-on help to resolve the hard problems, not a ticket queue.
